NYC sidewalk service details

Brooklyn's Brownstone, Bluestone & Concrete Sidewalk Specialists

Brooklyn has the most original bluestone sidewalks left in NYC and some of the city's most aggressive root-heaving from mature street trees. NYC Sidewalk Pros restores, replaces and re-beds Brooklyn sidewalks across every neighborhood, in full compliance with NYC DOT and Brooklyn's many historic district requirements.

Park Slope, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens and Boerum Hill are still mostly Pennsylvania bluestone. Williamsburg, Bushwick, Greenpoint and DUMBO have transitioned to concrete with bluestone accents. We work in both materials, often on the same block, and finish to match adjacent surfaces.

  • Brownstone stoop restoration (Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill)
  • Pennsylvania bluestone re-bedding & replacement
  • Brooklyn Historic District LPC filings
  • Williamsburg & DUMBO commercial frontage work
  • Crown Heights & Bed-Stuy root heaving fixes
  • Bay Ridge & Sunset Park residential walkways

Brooklyn's mature street trees — especially the London plane trees that line so many residential blocks — cause more root-heaving sidewalk damage than anywhere else in NYC. We install HDPE root barriers as part of every Brooklyn pour where mature trees are present, redirecting roots downward instead of letting them lift the new slab two winters later.

Brooklyn's co-op and condo market has exploded in the last decade, and many newer buildings have inherited sidewalk maintenance obligations they're only just starting to understand. We work with FirstService Residential, AKAM and Halstead on Brooklyn condo portfolios and run multi-year maintenance programs for boards across the borough.

Our Brooklyn Sidewalk Repair Process

Every brooklyn sidewalk repair project we accept in the New York City metro follows the same four-step process. It keeps timelines predictable, pricing transparent, and quality consistent from the first call to the final cure.

01

Brooklyn Site Visit

Identify materials (bluestone vs concrete), tree-root pressure, and any open DOT violations or LPC overlay.

02

Filings

DOT permit; LPC filing if in a historic district; MPT plan.

03

Root Barrier + Pour

Mature-tree blocks get an HDPE root barrier before the new slab is poured.

Yes — including Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Park Slope, Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Carroll Gardens, Boerum Hill, Stuyvesant Heights, Crown Heights North and several smaller districts.

Bluestone runs about 3× the cost of concrete per square foot, but lasts 75-150 years properly installed. In LPC districts, bluestone is required.

Not if a root barrier is installed. Without one, mature trees can lift a new slab within 5-10 years. With a properly installed 24" or 36" HDPE barrier, recurrence is <5%.
